Marble Cake 2

I have the  luxury of an electric oven now and so was checking out some marble cake recipes  as my nephew wanted one.I came across this  one in this blog and decided to try it.I had all ingredients in hand so it was this... i had also checked out a recipe from joyof baking.com but did not have a few ingredients used.I also have another marble cake recipe here.I felt that this cake could be a little more sweet so next time i will add more sugar .

Now going back to the marble cake... the first time i had marble cake was  the bakery bought marble cake.
All our snacks used to come from " best bakers" and they were indeed the best at that time.. not too sure now as we do not buy so much now... i used to wonder how they were mixing both flavours in the same cake... the small brain of  a little 10 year old could not give the answer... anyway now i know and i have baked it many times too..mostly in the microwave.
But now i have the ariston electric oven in my apartment and  i am enjoying baking even more....!!!!!:)

So here's the recipe

Ingredients:

2 cups maida or all purpose flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 cup powdered sugar plus another 3 tablespoons( altered according to my taste..original recipe says 1 1/4 cup)
100gm  butter
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup milk

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 180C/ 350F

2. Grease a cake tin .I used a loaf pan and a ring .(yes ended up making 2 cakes...:)...).

3.Mix the flour and baking powder well in a mixing bowl or you can sieve them together.

4.In another bowl mix the butter and sugar well.( i used the hand beater)Then add the eggs , followed by milk and vanilla.Beat on slow speed initially  and then increase to high.(otherwise you will get the sugar on your face!!)
Mix for about 2-3 minutes till the dough is smooth.

5. Divide the batter into 2- say 60 -40 ratio.Add the cocoa to the 40 percent part and mix well.

6.Alternately pour the batters into the tin.Take  a toothpick or knife and swirl the mixture.Take care not too mix too much but just swirl so that you get the marble effect.

7.Bake at 180 C for about  35 minutes.( my ring  cake was ready in about 35 minutes but my loaf took longer ..about 50 minutes) or till skewer or toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cool it for 15-20 minutes before you take it out of the pan.Its always a good idea to run a knife on the sides of the pan .IF there is any cake sticking to the pan it will come off.

And your marble cake is ready to serve.

Note:

  • You can use a non stick spray or the other old style method of greasing with butter and dusting with flour.I always do this.
  • I used to sieve ingredients but i   have seen that Stephanie Jaworski of joyofbaking.com normally just mixes these ingredients so i do that these days... its easier!!!!
  •  If you want more of chocolate flavour in it , add the cocoa to the 60 per cent part.
So try it out !!!
