Tomato Chutney



Tomato chutney is a  very good accompaniment with idlis and dosas.CAn be made quickly with very few ingredients.

Ingredients

Oil-1 tablespoon
Onion- 2,medium sized,sliced long
Tomatoes -3,medium sized,sliced long
Green chilli-1( add according to your tase)
Kashmiri mirch-1 teaspoon( to give colour)
Fresh Coriander leaves -3-4 stems
Salt to taste

Saute onions .When slightly brown add tomatoes.Add the green chilli and the red chilli powder and salt and cook till tomatoes are cooked. Take off stove.
Add the coriander leaves and grind in a blender or mixie.If grinding hot ,keep a cloth over teh blender top  and grind.
The chutney is ready.Serve with hot hot idlis or doshas.



You may also  temper this chutney with mustard seeds,  dried red chillies and curry leaves.

This chutney can be used for  a day or two  if kept  refrigerated.

I sometimes add the leftover chutney when making dals.

Simple Coconut Chutney

What do i write about something as simple as a coconut chutney??A chutney which is made almost everyday in my kerala home.Never ever imagined i will be blogging about coconut chutney. But if i can blog about sambhaaram , so also the coconut chutney.

Ingredients:

Coconut grated-1
Ginger -2 tspn
Green Chilli - 2 or 3( depending upon your tolerance)

Water as required to form pouring cocnsistency, say 1/2 to 1 cup
Salt

For the tadka:

Oil( i use coconut oil)- 1 tablespoon
 Mustard seeds-2 tspn
Urad dal- 1/2 to 1 tspn
Dry red chillies 2-3 broken ino pieces
Curry leaves- 8-10

Grind coconut,green chilli and ginger together in a food processor till smooth.Pour it into a serving bowl and add water to get pouring consistency.Add salt.
Now for the tadka.
Heat oil in kadai.Splutter mustard seeds. Then add the urad dal .When the urad dal turns brown,turn off the stove and immediately add the broken red chillies and curry leaves.Now pour this into your chutney and stir.
Your chutney is ready to serve.
It will be yummy with Idlis, dosas and vadas.
