3 P Curry

Weird name right??? That's my own.. :D

Y this name??? cos it has 3 main  ingredients the names of which start in 'P"..in different languages though..Pudina,Palak and peas!!

Now going to teh discovery of this recipe.. if i can call it that;)

Long back, say about 3-4 years back,my dad ,me and N were in Mumbai. We went to a restaurant to have lunch and my dad being teh palak fan ordered a palak( spinach) item and he hates panner so it was not palak paneer. What we got  was  something like  a palak pudina gravy. It was very tasty. And N was after me to try it at home. That did not happen for a long time though..
Then another day i was just going though some magazine and i saw a  palak mutter pic..I thought i will make that ..but as usual when i started making it , i started adding whatever i felt like and the end result was this 3 P curry or the palak pudina peas curry!!

Now N is a biigggg fan of this 3 P curry so whenever he sees fresh palak in teh supermarket, it is bought and this has to be made!!

Ingredients i used

Spinach (palak)- 2 bunches
Pudina (mint) leaves - a handful
Dhania(coriander) leaves- 2-3 stems
 Peas -  almost 1 cup
Tomato 1- made into puree in food processor,1 medium tomato chopped finely-medium(optional)
Salt -to taste
Red chilli powder-1 tspn
Garam Masala powder- 1/2 to 1 tspn depending on your taste
Oil-1 tbsp
Cumin seeds- 1tspn

Method

Clean the spinach very well and chop .Now boil some water in a big bowl and immerse the spinach in it for sometime.Drain into a colander.Cool and grind in food processor along with  cleaned mint and coriander leaves.

Heat oil in  a saucepan and splutter cumin seeds. Now add the pureed tomato.Add some red chilli powder, salt and let it cook. When the puree starts to thicken pour in the ground spinach.Let the bubbles start appearing.Put in the peas and let the peas boil Now add the chopped tomatoes.Let it just wilt and then add the garam masala.Adjust salt and take off from stove.Garnish with cream and serve with hot rotis/chapathis.It may go well with puris too but have not tried.

You can also make the spinach paste ahead of time and store in refrigerator.

Health Tip:   Spinach is rich in iron and once absorbed helps in production of haemoglobin and red blood cells.

Notes:You may also add ginger garlic paste or any one of them.
If using frozen peas you can let it boil with the spinach gravy. When using fresh peas i normally boil it separately.
